The carton of old milk

Dating, besides being fun, can also be a challenge. We look for a meaningful relationship but don't want to waste our time on trash. Some of us may want someone who is wealthy or extremely attractive. Others may hope that the date is clean, healthy, reasonably sane and willing to put decent effort into their life and a relationship.

When I was in high school, a girl invited me over for dinner. I thought it was a very nice gesture and, being a guy, was never one to turn down food. I was looking forward to the chance to learn more about each other.
I think her mother had prepared the meal but I watched her very nicely reheat the dinner and serve the plates with the food. I was tremendously impressed by her efforts until she poured the milk for us. There were two milk containers, one mostly empty and the other unopened. The mostly emptied container of milk was given to me and she opened the fresh carton to pour for herself.

She did carefully to provide out the food but, she was equally careful that she received the milk from the fresh milk container while I received the milk left over from the older container.

Was I wrong to focus on the milk and not the food? Was I wrong to ask, 'did I really want a piece of this?'

Your thoughts.
